2020 U.S. CHAMPIONSHIPS OVERVIEW

October 2020 will mark an extraordinary chapter in American chess history, as due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Saint Louis Chess Club will host the 2020 U.S. Chess Championships online for the first time. This unique combination of the five top national tournaments will showcase competitors that best represent the past, present, and future of American Chess.

October 9 – 11          U.S. Girls’ Championship — Final Results
$10,300 Prize Fund:  Carissa Yip is clear 1st and her third US Junior GIrl’s Championship with a score of 7.5/9 $3,000 and a $6,000 Scholarship. Carissa will play in the Women’s Championship; Annie Wang scored 6/9 in clear 2nd $2,000. She will also play in the Women’s championship; 3rd is Rochelle Wu earning $1,500 at 5.5/9; =4th shared by Jennifer Yu the defending Women’s Champion and Thalia Cervantes finished 5/9 each earned $875. Thalia will also be competing in the US Woman’s Championship; 6th place Emily Nguyen earned $600 scoring 4.5/9; 7th is Ruiyang Yan earned $500 with a score of 4/9; =8th is shared by M. Samadashvili, S. Morris-Suzuki and Alice Lee earning $316 each.
October 13 – 15        U.S. Junior Championship — Final Results

Final standings are: John Burke 6.5 1st on tie breaks $6,000 + $6,000 scholarship; 2nd on tie breaks Jeffery Xiong 6.5 — $4,000; Samuel Sevian 3rd 6.0 — $3,000; 4th Brandon Jacobson 5.5 — $2,000; 5th Christopher Yoo 5.0 — $1,500; =6th Nicolas Checa & Praveen Balakrishnan 4.0 – $1,100 each; 8th Joshua Sheng 3.0 — $800; 9th Christopher Shen 2.5 $600; 10th Bryce Tiglon 2.0 — $500.
